What is Cryolipolysis?
This refers to cold-injury to fat. Interestingly, fat cells are more susceptible to reduced temperatures than skin. Zeltiq is a procedure that allows the fat layer to be safely cooled while sparing surrounding tissues. Over about 2-4 months, the injured fat cells are naturally metabolized and removed from the body.
What Can Zeltiq do for me?
Currently the Zeltiq CoolSculpting Procedure can reduce fat in the following areas:
- Abdomen
- Flanks "love handles" or "muffin top"
- Back Fat
Who is a good candidate?
Ideal candidates must have discrete bulges of fat. Generally obese patients are not good candidates. Zeltiq is not a weight loss procedure.
What happens during a Zeltiq treatment?
For the average "love handle" patient, each side will require a one hour cycle. This means an average of 2 hours for this area. The area or fat roll will be "sucked into" a chilled handpiece, and you will feel pressure and cold. Patients bring ipods, laptops and books to keep busy during this time. There is no pain, and no downtime, you may return to regular activities immediately!
How much improvement can I expect after a Zeltiq treatment?
Results are usually noticeable after 1-2 treatments of the
same area. Most patients experience a visible decrease in the size of the bulge or roll being treated. Some patients with thicker fat layers may need additional treatments.
Is there any downtime or side effects?
There is no downtime. Bruising in the treated area is common. Temporary numbness limited to the treated area is also common.
Is this an alternative to liposuction?
For some patients, it may be. For small, localized areas of fat, Zeltiq cryolipolysis may be a better choice if you do not want any surgery or anesthesia.
