How Do I Get Rid Of Smokers Lines?

Smokers lines or peri-oral lines are wrinkles that form on the lips from using the muscle that encircles the mouth.

Smokers get these wrinkles from constantly wrapping their lips around cigarettes and using the muscle.

This is the same reason why drinking from plastic water bottles is bad.

It is all about the muscle contraction and thinning skin in this area.

There are two nice treatments that can not only improve the appearance of Smokers’ Lines, but also prevent them from WORSENING.

  • Botox. A small dose of botox will relax the muscle contraction.
  • A small amount of filler like Juvederm or Belotero will thicken up, firm up and fill in lines around the mouth.

Botox around the mouth for Smokers’ Lines must be injected regularly!! The filler will last for months and maybe a year or two.

How Can I Get Rid of My Underarm Sweating?

Underarm sweating can be very embarassing as it reveals giant wet spots on clothing
and stains shirts.

Many people try prescription topicals to reduce sweating, but these drugs often cause
a lot of irritation.

Botox can safely and easily be used to treat underarm sweating! You could be dry for
up to 6 months!

Botox is injected with tiny needles into the armpit and the entire treatment for underarm
sweating takes about 15 minutes!

Your first treatment is usually 50 units per armpit of botox cosmetic. After about 2 weeks
you will notice less sweating!

At your second treatment, you will probably notice that it does not last as long and you will
need more Botox for your sweating.

Try Botox for your underarm sweating and see if being dryer is for you!

How Do I Get Rid of Large Pores?

Large pores and thick oily skin often go together. Some patients with large pores also
have redness and acne.

Large pores are best treated with chemical peels. Salicylic acid peels are best for large pore, and in fact are also the gold standard treatment for Acne and Redness.

Chemical peels are professional treatments performed by an esthetician. Salicylic peels for Large pores take about 30 minutes and do create a burning feeling for several minutes.

How many chemical peels will I need to treat my large pores?
Results with chemical peels are usually evident after about 6. Large pores will begin to
decrease in size, and redness and acne will also decrease.

We are also seeing a significant improvement in large pores with the Dermapen Advanced
Medical Microneedling treatment. Most patients will need 2-4 Dermapen treatments.

Dermapen microneedling is a deeper treatment that goes perfectly with chemical peels.

How To Get Rid of Skin Discoloration or Melasma

How do I get rid of brown patches on my skin? Many patients suffer from skin discoloration called Melasma. This type of skin discoloration is deep in the skin and should NOT be treated with a PhotoFacial.

These deep brown patches or “pregnancy mask” must be treated with a combition of products and professional treatments. Excellent results can achieved!

The 5 must-do products are:

  1. Retinoid
  2. Exfoliator
  3. Antioxidant
  4. Physical Sunblock
  5. Rx Bleacher or Hydroquinone

The Must-do professional treatments are:

Chemical Peels

  • Our peels are specially formulated to create minimal peeling and redness.
  • Peels must be obtained regularly, and continuously!! Get your chemical peel
  • EVERY 4-8 weeks to get great results!

This combination is absolutely critical to decreasing the discoloration in your skin. The great news is that this regimen is also ANTI-AGING!!!! You will begin to notice improved texture, smaller pores, and your skin will start to glow as the brown the patches begin to improve!!

The important thing to remeber is to NEVER treat this condition with a PhotoFacial or a Laser!! It can WORSEN a few months later!

Facelift Prepping

Are you considering a face lift? For many patients a facelift is terrific option to improve facial wrinkles and sagging skin.

But remeber, that a surgical facelift will not address the condition or quality of your skin. During surgery for a facelift, resurfacing may be performed which can significantly improve the look of the skin.

By prepping or increasing the collagen and condition of the skin prior to these procedures, patients will often experience quicker skin healing and better outcomes.

Prepping for a facelift should include a home regimen and professional treatments. Together, these work synergistically! A home regimen should include a retinoid, an exfoliator, an antioxidant and a physical sunblock.

Professional treatments like chemical peels or microdermabrasion every 4-6 weeks enhance your home regimen by exfoliating the dead the skin.

The home regimen will enhance the professional treatments by conditioning the skin and allowing for deeper professional treatments.

When you heal from the face lift, now your skin will reallly glow!

National Rosacea Month

April is National Rosacea Month!

IF your skin is chronically red and you are asking yourself, “How do I treat my red skin?” you may
have Rosacea.

There are a few types of rosacea, and the best place to start is with your dermatologist. A dermatologist can diagnose and treat rosacea, and your insurance may pay for this.

If you are not getting results with your dermatologist, you may need additional help. We can treat you with Photofacials, and specialized peels and products for redness.

Photofacials for redness shut down the superficial tiny blood vessels and you will need 3-5 of these treatments.

Rosacea Chemical peels target blood vessels’ inflammatory process and reduce redness.

Avene products are used at home and contain extracts that also tell the skin NOT to form new blood vessels, and calms the blood vessels already visible.

Larger blood vessels on the face are treated with a 1064 laser. These treatments are admistered by Dr. Keefe.

Dermapen Advanced Microneedling

How can I get rid of Acne scars?

Many patients ask this question, and while it is impossible to completely rid the skin of acne scarring, it can be improved!

In the past, “Resurfacing” meaning removing a portion of the skin surface was the the treatment of choice for acne scarring. Unfortunately, the results were not always great, but the complications could be.

Now, we have a new treatment called Dermapen. This advanced form of microneedling allows thousands of tiny holes to be needled into the skin surface. The depth of penetration is actually DEEPER than a laser treatment!

These tiny holes stimulate collagen formation that helps skin to appear smoother and feel firmer. The amazing thing about Dermapen treatments is that the downtime is minimal! For rejuvenation you may have no downtime or some redness for a day or two!

For acne scarring and fine lines, we can treat your more agressively, and you may be a bit red for a few days. You will not have swelling, oozing or pain associated with laser treatment for acne scarring.

Dermapen treatments can give you an immediate glow just a few days after your treatment. Most patients notice a nice improvement right away!

For acne scarring, about 6 Dermapne microneedling treatments are neede. Usually these treatments are about 6-8 weeks apart.

Liposuction vs. Coolsculpting

Many people want to know the difference between liposuction and Fat Freezing or Coolsculpting.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that invasely removes (by suction) large volumes of fat. This surgical procedure usually involves general anesthesia when combined with tummy tucks or involves large areas.

Large volumes of fat can be removed with liposuction, however there is risk with any surgery. This can include pain, infection, nerve damage, clots, and even death.

For many patients, if large volumes of fat and skin removal are needed, liposuction is the only option.

Coolsculpting is a fat freezing procedure for small bulges of fat, or for patients who are close to their ideal weight. These patients probably would not be great candidates for liposuction.

Coolsculpting involves placing a large suction cup on the fat bulge area and freezing the tissue for one hour. There is NO surgery, needles, anesthesia or down time. Any given area may need to be treated 2-3 times. Ideal areas for Coolsculpting are:

  • Love handles
  • Tummy
  • Inner Thighs

Coolsculpting or Fat Freezing

Hate those small bulges of fat that just don’t resolve with diet and exercise? Try Coolsculting Fat Reduction! Through a process of cryolipolysis, fat cells cells are killed, sparing the muscle, nerves and skin. Over 2-4 months, the fat bulge gets smaller! Excellent for:

  • Love Handles
  • Back/Bra Fat
  • Inner Thighs
  • Belly Fat

Coolsculpting is best for those patients who are about 10-15 lbs within ideal weight. Most patients will need 2-4 treatments  about 1-2 months apart. Each treatment is simple and just requires that you either sit or lie down quietly. Some patients experience some pressure or pain during the first 10 minutes of Fat Freezing.

Coolsculpting requires no surgery, needles or anesthesia! There is NO downtime and you may return to normal activities right away!
