What is Zeltiq

July 25th, 2010
ZELTIQ ™ (pronounced Zel ‘teek),  is a science-based medical-device  that is a non-invasive procedure for the reduction of unwanted fat tissue through lipolysis. The ZELTIQ system utilizes a patented method called Cryolipolysis ™; the use of precisely controlled cooling to remove fat. This method is designed to only kill fat cells without injury to the skin or other tissue that results from more invasive procedures such as liposuction. This non-surgical approach may be most suitable for patients who only need minimal fat reduction, as well as for those who are unwilling or hesitant to undergo surgery for fat removal.

Fat Freezing

July 3rd, 2010
Cryolipolysis is becoming more and more popular thanks to an addtional smaller handpiece for the Zeltiq system. Freezing fat bulges is now easier, and more areas of the body can be treated!
An alternative to liposuction, Zeltiq Cool Scultping can decrease the size of fat bulges without surgery, incisions, needles, or downtime! The Zeltiq fat freezing procedure is painless and safe. About 20-22% of the fat cells in the treated area will be permanently removed over a 2-4 month period.
Although liposuction results are more immediate and larger fat areas can be treated, liposuction does have some cons.  Liposuction typically results in swelling, severe bruising, and  requires the wearing of special garments for weeks.
If you are close to your ideal weight, and just have some fat bulges that do not respond to your weight loss attempt, try Zeltiq Cool Sculpting.

This is a non-invasive procedure—no needles and no incisions. So, no risky anesthesia or pain medications and there is no down time. You may assume normal activities right away.

Is Liposuction Safe?

Liposuction is considered  a safe and effective procedue when performed by a qualified plastic surgeon. Some of the risks associated with liposuction include:
  • Uneven contours
  • Loose or rippled skin
  • Skin or Nerve damage
  • Infection
  • Fat and Blood Clots

PhotoFacials

April 14th, 2010

If you have sun damage, brown spots, age spots and redness, a PhotoFacial at Gilbert Perfect Skin may be right for you!

Sun damage or photodamage occurs with too much sun (or tanning bed) exposure. It does not occur with fake tanners. It looks like brown spots, redness and blotchiness. The texture of the skin appears dry and rough. Sometimes precancerous and cancerous lesions are present within all of this.

Age spots” can mean many different skin diagnoses. Most brown spots can be safely treated with PhotoFacial. Some brown spots will need to be examined by your dermatologist. Some brown spots are called “seborrheic Keratosis” and cannot be treated with a PhotoFacial.

Redness and tiny red blood vessels make you look old. Sun exposure may also worsen these red lesions.

The superficial brown spots caused by the sun can be nicely improved with 2-3 photofacial treatments!

Laser Hair Removal

April 3rd, 2010

Is laser hair removal right for you?

The two most important factors for laser hair removal success are:

  • Hair Color
  • Skin Color

The darker the hair color, the better the hair removal works. In darker hair, the laser will direct more energy into the follicle. More energy means more hair follicle destruction.

Skin color in laser hair removal is very important. Very light skin does not absorb as much energy as dark skin from the laser, so it is safer. Dark skinned individuals have a higher risk of burns from lasers. Because of this, the safest and BEST laser for hair removal in darker skinned patients is the 1064 laser. This longer wavelength is great for ethnic skin!!

Because all patients have a combination of thick & dark, and thinner & light hair, we use a combination of a 1064 laser and an Intense Pulsed Light to attain more succesful laser hair removal results.

Acne Scars

March 18th, 2010
How do I get rid of acne scars?
Although this is a complicated question, the good news is that you CAN improve the look of acne scarring (for Phoenix area including Gilbert, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe and Queen Creek – contact Gilbert Perfect Skin).
The gold standard for treating true acne scarring(depressions in the skin) is “resurfacing” with lasers or deep chemcal peels. With major procedures like this, you can expect a nice 30-75% improvement. But with deep resurfacing comes a lot of down time and risk. Full laser resurfacing usually requires general anesthesia or at least intravenous sedation.
An alternative is serial laser peels with a fractionated laser. This means a LESS AGRESSIVE laser resurfacing technique over 3-4 treatments. But this also means your results will much less impressive, more like a 10-20% improvement.
So, the bottom line is:
Less downtime, pain, risk & money= lesser results!
