Most wrinkles are the result of the skin folding over itself when the facial muscles contract. By injecting Botox into the muscles that cause the wrinkle we can decrease the wrinkle and sometimes get rid of it.
What is Rejuvapen or Dermapen or Eclipse microneedling?
All of these terms refer to the treatment involving tiny needles in the skin to increase collagen formation.
During microneedling or Rejuvapen, 11 needles are vibrated into the skin at an exact depth. This depth is determined by the esthetician. These tiny wounds cause a reaction in the dermis which results in increased collagen.
Microneedling is very safe and easy. Each Rejuvapen or Dermapen or Ecllipse advanced microneedling procedure takes about 30 minutes. You will feel mildly hot for about 2 hours, along with being bright red. You will remain a bit pink for a couple of days. For very agressive treatment, your down time will be greater and longer.
To improve poor texture, scars and fine lines, 4 treatments in a row of microneedling are suggested. For yearly maintenance, 3 per year.
Any part of the face or body may be treated with microneedling, even the eyelids!!
If you are starting to notice a thinning or darkening around your eyes, try microneedling!
Does Botox work for underarm sweating? Yes! Botox works wonders for underarm sweating. Most patients see a significant decrease in armpit sweating for about 5-6 months.
Botox underarm sweating treatments are fast and easy. In about 20 minutes, you too could be fresh and dry.
Botox is injected with a very tiny needle into the armpit and in about 2 weeks you will begin notice much less sweating.
How many units are used for Botox underarm sweating treatments? Your first treatment usually consists of 100 units, or 50 unit of Botox per armpit.
More than half of patients will notice that the second treatment of only 100 units does not last 6 months, and 150-200 units of Botox is suggested at subsequent treatments.
If you are tired wet, smelly armpits try Botox for underarm sweating.
“I hate my dark circles under my eyes” We hear this frequently. But hate no more!!
Dark circles are usually accompanied by a deep trough or depression under the eye.
By filling this area with Belotero, we can improve the look !!
Belotero is a filler designed just for this!! Dr. Keefe uses a very tiny needle to place very small threads of filler here. Most patients will need 2-4 treatments to get a nice correction with Belotero.
The skin under the eye is very thin, and loses COLLAGEN rapidly as we age. To improve the look and stimulate more collagen in this area patients must use a regimen of:
- Microneedling to stimulate collagen
- Retinol to stimulate collagen
- Vit C to fight free radicals
- Physical Sunblock
- Regular chemical peels
Melanin causes brown spots and patches and hemoglobin is present in your tiny blood vessels. These tiny blood vessels make up
A PhotoFacial treatment breaks up the melanin and it is released at the surface of your skin. The energy from the Photofacial destroys tiny blood vessels, reducing redness.
Your skin will be red, and any brown spots will become very dark and a little “scabby”. For about a week, it will appear as though you have a severe sun burn after your Photofacial or IPL.
A PhotoFacial is not for all patients. If you tan very easily, it may not be for you. You must commit to staying out of the sun after a photofacial, and use sunscreen and a sound skin care regimen indefinitely.
Botox -or botulinum toxin- is a popular cosmetic surgery for treating and preventing wrinkles. This purified toxin is produced by clostridium botulinum bacteria. Is botox effective? Definitely. According to Web MD botox works when a small amount is injected into the skin area requiring some smoothing. Botox may be used for the forehead, neck, frown lines, crow’s feet, face, and brow furrows. When it’s injected the botox then blocks the nerve signals in the muscle. This causes the botox to essentially paralyze the muscle. After about three to four days the injection of botox will noticeably have temporarily smoothed out the wrinkles of the area and prevented wrinkles from forming. These results are not permanent and only last three to four months, so periodic botox injection appointments are necessary to keep up the results. The United States FDA observes botox as a good option for adults sixty-five years and younger to use for removing wrinkles in the short-term. The FDA also lists botox as a good treatment for chronic migraines, eye muscle issues, and muscle stiffness.
There are many celebrity personalities, actors, actresses, and news people who use botox. Whether they just utilize it two times a year or every two to four months it more than often gives them great results and wrinkle free complexions. Vanessa Williams, David Hasselhoff, Janice Dickinson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Simon Cowell, and Robin Wright have stated that they use botox around two times a year or sparingly. Jenny McCarthy, Lisa Rinna, Sharon Osbourne, Kim Kardashian, Joan Rivers, Kim Cattrall, Kelly Ripa use botox more regularly throughout the year with excellent results. Lori Loughlin also uses some botox and says it makes you look like you just went on vacation. Nicole Kidman and Courtney Cox have stated that they’ve used botox in the past but after both having instances of too much of it injected into their faces and paralyzing most of their face movement for a short time they are more careful about using it. All of these celebrities do have wrinkle free faces and youthful appearances. They all look fantastic and are proof that botox really can prevent wrinkles.
The only FDA approved treatment for short eyelashes is Latisse Eyelash. This drug has been proven to lengthen and thicken eyelashes in as little as 2-4 weeks.
Latisse Eyelash works by increasing the the growth phase of the hair cycle.
Latisse was originally a drug for Glaucoma patients. These patients consistently reported longer, thicker eyelashes with these drugs as a side effect. Allergan then conducted studies to see if could be used solely lash lenthening.
Latisse Eyelash is applied to the lashes every day with a small brush. A 5ml bottle of Latisse Eyelash should last about 5 months. Patients who are members of Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions reward program earn points along with Botox and Juvederm.
If you are a mascara monster because your eyelashes just never get noticed, try Latisse Eyelash. You will use less mascara, and have long, lush eyelashes!!
Selecting the right skin care products can be overwhelming to anyone, particularly in this information age and due to constant inundation by brands and their messages. It is difficult to sift through all of the advertorial content to determine truth from marketing fantasy. Finally, when one has decided upon products as being the right choice, an overwhelming majority still choose the wrong skin care.
When choosing skincare products, it is always best to consult a professional. Dr. Lisa Keefe and her qualified, expertly-trained staff know how important the right skincare products are to the health and beauty of your skin. Unlike department stores or websites, the professionals of Gilbert Perfect Skin have only one interest in mind. That is, of what is best for your skin, not the in the interest of particular brands, paid advertisers, commissions or quotas.
Online Pricing Scams
When buying skincare from a clinical professional, patients are assured of quality. But, many patients who buy skincare products from their dermatologist or aesthetician’s office later shop online to gain the “cheapest” pricing for the same products. By doing so, patients do not realize that they are often not getting the same quality as they do when buying from a designated clinical professional. In fact, they may not even be getting the same ingredients or formulation, at all.
For patients who get their Botox treatments regularly, some may notice an increase in duration.
Most patients note that Botox will last 3-4 months on average.
If you stop your botox treatments, you skin will just return to it’s previous state—muscle contractions return along with your wrinkles.
Counterfeit items were not the only issue associated with online low pricing by the retail giant.
Ms. Toms explains further, “Our company was competing against itself to catch bargain shoppers without compromising our primary company name or risking loss of brands. This is called the ‘grey market.’ When I started with the organization, I kept hearing that we were not to speak of our use of the grey market, but I had no idea even what that meant.”
“One of the grey market tactics used was for certain executives and some lower staff to list products on bidding sites and other retail catch-all web portals. They did this specifically to bypass vendor agreements and minimum pricing standards. I found all of these tactics and the prevalence of counterfeits, as well as the knowing purchasing from overseas dealers, shocking.”
That company has since changed owners and moved its operations to another state. However, such issues are not unusual. Even major online retailers trusted by consumers for years can have such lapses in integrity, which in turn provides patients with poor quality product.
When buying from a dermatologist or skincare professional, product quality is more of a given. Ms. Toms explains how patients can be assured of skincare product quality when buying from their dermatologist or aesthetician.
“When buying from your skincare professional located in a local skincare practice, you are buying product which has come directly from the hands of a brand representative. That representative essentially obtained that product from the point of manufacture. Quality is assured, as only designated individuals and companies can sell most quality skincare product lines.”
In trying to find a lower price online, skincare patients are often chasing after inauthentic, reformulated, repackaged, stolen, used or even expired product. To take the best care of your skin and actually gain the product you think you are buying, the safest point of purchase is your skincare professional.
Ms. Toms’ statements are not news to many major skincare brands. Individual brands have been aware of counterfeiting of their products for years. While they try to fight the sale of fake goods under their image, this is an ongoing, giant undertaking.
Identifying Skincare Products as Fake
Skincare product counterfeiting has become such a widespread and expensive problem for consumers that the Federal Bureau of Investigations has issued tips for consumers to identify their products, or some they are considering purchasing, as counterfeit or stolen.
Here are some ways you can identify your purchased skincare products as possibly counterfeit or stolen:
- The product offered is a sample size, yet is being sold online or through other means. Samples are free giveaways for designated retailers to incentivize customers, not for sale.
- Packaging of the product looks slightly different than the typical container of the authentic brand. Colors, fonts or text may be different.
- Package labels or wrapping appear skewed or misaligned.
- Advertisers are calling the product a “limited edition,” yet the brand, itself does not offer such a “limited edition.”
- Products are not listed on the brand’s authentic website.
- Pricing is much lower than the MSRP, or much lower than is offered anywhere else.
- Product color, consistency or texture seem different than authentic product of the same brand.
- For scented products, the scent or color is slightly off from authentic versions.
- The products are being sold by unauthorized sellers, such as at flea markets, online bidding sites, discount stores or websites with wide collections of products.
- Labels are missing lot number, bar codes, manufacturer address, expiration date or other key information.

It can be very confusing for any Botox, Juvederm, or photofacial patient to make
decisions about which skin care products to purchase.
How does one sort through the misleading ads, and find the truth?
Dr. Keefe takes the time to read the studies of skin care products, and the ingredients. We have found that brands like PCA, Skinmedica, Neova (procyte) and Glytone to have very good studies and track records.
Not all products have good studies or offer great benefit. This is why we only carry select items from Skinmedica,Neova, Procyte, Glytone, Avene, and PCA.
At Gilbert Perfect Skin we don’t want to see a patient waste time and money on products that don’t work . We often see patients who jump from store brand to brand and spend a great deal of money at the Nordstrom counter. These patients do not enjoy visible improvements in their skin discoloration, texture or sundamage over time, despite having regular Botox injections.
Choosing skin care products that actually improve your skin like PCA, Skinmedica, Avene, procyte, Neova, and Glytone equires expert advice. It will save you money and your skin.
